theatrical prop

A theatrical prop is any movable object used onstage during a performance—furniture, weapons, food, letters, anything actors handle or interact with.

The term distinguishes these items from fixed scenery and costumes.

Props range from functional (a working telephone) to purely decorative.

In film and television, the term applies the same way: The auction featured theatrical props from classic Hollywood movies.
