the beyond
What lies past
The beyond refers to whatever lies outside ordinary experience or existence—particularly what comes after death.
It suggests a realm we cannot directly access or fully understand: She wondered if her grandmother was watching from the beyond.
The phrase carries a mystical or spiritual quality, gesturing toward transcendence: a message from the beyond, crossing over into the beyond.
