temporary restraining orders
Short-term legal barriers
Temporary restraining orders are court orders issued on short notice to prohibit someone from specific actions, typically contact with or proximity to another person, until a full hearing can be held.
Often abbreviated as TROs, they are emergency measures in cases involving alleged domestic violence, harassment, or stalking, and usually remain in effect for only a few weeks.
She obtained a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend after he showed up at her workplace.
Violating a TRO can result in arrest.
