tempo run

Threshold-pace training session

A tempo run is a sustained run at a comfortably hard pace, typically at or near lactate threshold—the intensity you could maintain for about an hour in a race.

Runners use tempo runs to build endurance and improve their ability to hold a challenging pace: I do a tempo run every Wednesday as part of my marathon training.

Also called a threshold run.
