tea breaks

Midwork beverage respites

Tea breaks are short pauses from work for refreshment, originally and especially associated with British workplace culture.

The term persists even when coffee or other beverages are consumed: We get two fifteen-minute tea breaks plus lunch.

The practice reflects a broader tradition of scheduled rest periods during the workday.
