tartar buildup
Hardened plaque accumulation
Tartar buildup is the accumulation of hardite deposits on teeth.
Tartar (also called calculus) forms when plaque mineralizes into a crusty yellowish or brownish layer that can't be removed by brushing alone.
Dentists and hygienists scrape it away during cleanings: The hygienist said I had significant tartar buildup along my gumline.
