swimsuit competition
Bikini judging event
A swimsuit competition is the portion of a beauty pageant where contestants appear in swimwear to be judged on physical appearance and fitness.
Long a staple of pageants like Miss America and Miss Universe, the format has drawn criticism for reducing women to their bodies: They finally dropped the swimsuit competition.
The term sometimes appears sarcastically for any situation where people are being evaluated on looks rather than substance.
