super-spreaders
Outbreak amplifying individuals
Super-spreaders are individuals who transmit an infectious disease to an unusually large number of people, far exceeding the typical rate of transmission.
The term gained wide currency during COVID-19 but applies to any outbreak where a few infected people drive most new cases.
By extension, super-spreader events are gatherings where such transmission occurs: The wedding became a super-spreader event.
