subversive humor
Jokes challenging authority
Subversive humor undermines authority, conventions, or social norms through comedy.
It challenges what audiences take for granted—political systems, cultural assumptions, sacred cows—by making them laughable.
The subversion can be subtle or overt: His stand-up had a subversive edge that made network executives nervous.
Satire, parody, and absurdism often serve subversive ends.
