subordinationism
Lesser-than-greater doctrine
Subordinationism is the theological position that the Son and Holy Spirit are subordinate to God the Father—not merely in role but in essence or being.
Orthodox Christianity rejected this view as heresy, insisting all three persons of the Trinity are coequal.
The term appears almost exclusively in discussions of early church controversies and Trinitarian theology: Arianism was a form of subordinationism.
