submeter
Tenant's utility tracker
A submeter is a secondary meter that measures utility usage (electricity, water, gas) for a portion of a property already served by a main meter.
Landlords use submeters to bill individual tenants for their actual consumption rather than splitting costs evenly: Each apartment has its own submeter for electricity.
As a verb, to submeter is to install such devices or bill tenants this way.
