sublicensees

Downstream permission holders

Sublicensees are parties who receive rights from someone who already holds a license, rather than from the original rights holder.

When a company licenses intellectual property—software, patents, trademarks—the agreement may permit or prohibit granting sublicenses to others.

The software agreement explicitly named all sublicensees who could distribute the product.

Sublicensees typically operate under restrictions inherited from the original license and may have more limited rights than the primary licensee.
