stripped screw
Worn-out thread head
A stripped screw has damaged threads or a worn head that no longer grips properly.
The threads may be stripped from overtightening or poor fit, preventing the screw from holding in its hole.
More commonly, the head is stripped—the slots or recesses worn smooth so a screwdriver can't get purchase: I can't get this stripped screw out; the Phillips head is completely rounded.
