string band
Fiddle and banjo
A string band is a musical ensemble featuring primarily stringed instruments—typically guitars, banjos, fiddles, mandolins, and upright bass.
The term is associated with American folk, old-time, and early country music traditions: The string band played at the county fair every summer.
String bands predate and influenced bluegrass music.
