storm prediction
Anticipating severe weather
Storm prediction is the science and practice of forecasting severe weather events before they occur.
Meteorologists use atmospheric data, radar, satellite imagery, and computer models to predict when and where storms will develop.
The field ranges from short-term warnings—a tornado prediction gave residents fifteen minutes to take shelter—to longer-range forecasts of hurricane tracks or winter storms.
