stone hammer
Primitive striking tool
A stone hammer is a primitive tool consisting of a stone head used for striking, either held directly in the hand or hafted to a wooden handle.
Such hammers were among the earliest tools made by humans, used for everything from breaking bones to shaping other stones.
The term appears in archaeological contexts and in descriptions of traditional toolmaking techniques.
The museum displayed stone hammers dating back 50,000 years.
