stitching up

Sewing a wound

Stitching up has two distinct meanings.

The literal sense is closing a wound with sutures: The doctor finished stitching up the gash on his arm.

In British slang, to stitch someone up is to frame them or manipulate circumstances to make them appear guilty: He didn't do it—someone stitched him up.

A stitch-up is the resulting setup or fix.
