state symbols
Designated regional emblems
State symbols are the official emblems, animals, plants, and other designations adopted by a U.S. state to represent its identity and heritage.
Every state has a flag and seal; most also designate a state bird, flower, tree, and motto.
Some states have dozens of official symbols—state fossils, state soils, state foods: The bison is the state mammal of Kansas.
In chemistry, state symbols are notations indicating physical state: (s) for solid, (l) for liquid, (g) for gas, (aq) for aqueous solution.
