official insignia
Badges of office
Official insignia are the authorized symbols, emblems, or badges that identify membership in or authority from an organization.
Military ranks display official insignia on uniforms.
Government seals, corporate logos, and police badges all qualify.
The term emphasizes that these symbols are formally sanctioned rather than improvised or counterfeit: Wearing official insignia without authorization is a federal offense.
