Disguised phone origins
Spoofed calls are phone calls where the caller ID has been falsified to display a different number than the one actually placing the call.
The technique is used legitimately by businesses wanting calls to show a main number, but more often by scammers impersonating banks, government agencies, or local numbers to trick people into answering: I keep getting spoofed calls that look like they're from my area code.
