spin serve
Twisting opening shot
A spin serve is a serve in racket sports—especially tennis and table tennis—where the player imparts rotation to the ball, causing it to curve in flight or bounce unpredictably.
The spin makes the ball harder to return cleanly: Her spin serve kicked sharply to the left, catching her opponent off guard.
