Soft tacos are tacos made with pliable flour or corn tortillas rather than crispy fried shells.
The distinction matters mainly in American-style Mexican restaurants, where hard-shell tacos are common enough that soft needs specifying: I'll have three soft tacos with chicken.
In traditional Mexican cuisine, tacos are soft by default.
