slubs

Fiber texture irregularities

Slubs are thick, uneven sections in yarn or thread, creating an irregular texture in fabric.

Once considered defects, slubs are now often introduced deliberately for visual interest: slub cotton, slub silk.

The bumpy, textured appearance gives fabric a casual, handcrafted quality.

As a verb, to slub is to draw out and twist fiber in preparation for spinning.
