sleep terrors
Screaming while asleep
Sleep terrors are episodes of intense fear, screaming, and thrashing during sleep, typically occurring in children during deep non-REM sleep.
Unlike nightmares, the sleeper usually doesn't wake fully and has no memory of the episode afterward.
Parents may find a child sitting up, eyes open but unresponsive, inconsolable for several minutes before settling back to sleep.
