skull caps

Tight-fitting head covers

Skull caps are close-fitting, brimless caps that cover the crown of the head.

The term applies to various headwear: the Jewish kippah worn during prayer, the knitted kufi in Islamic tradition, or the tight caps worn under helmets or wigs.

Skullcap is also a flowering plant in the mint family, named for the shape of its blossoms.
