silver salmon
Pacific Northwest catch
Silver salmon is another name for the coho salmon, a species of Pacific salmon prized by sport fishers for its fighting spirit and by cooks for its rich, orange-pink flesh.
The name comes from the fish's bright silvery coloring when it enters freshwater to spawn.
We caught three silver salmon on the Kenai River.
