side show
Not main event
A sideshow is a minor attraction at a fair or circus, separate from the main event—often featuring oddities, unusual performers, or novelty acts.
Figuratively, a sideshow is any distraction from what matters most: The scandal became a sideshow to the real policy debate.
The spelling varies: sideshow, side show, or side-show.
