shriven

Confessed and pardoned

Shriven is the past participle of shrive, an archaic verb meaning to hear confession, assign penance, and grant absolution.

Someone who is shriven has confessed their sins and received forgiveness from a priest.

The word survives mainly in Shrovetide and Shrove Tuesday—the day before Lent when Christians traditionally confessed before the fasting season began.
