semiconsciousness

Barely there mentally

Semiconsciousness is a state of partial awareness, between full alertness and complete unconsciousness.

Someone in semiconsciousness may respond sluggishly to stimuli, drift in and out of awareness, or have fragmented perception of their surroundings.

The term appears in medical contexts describing patients emerging from anesthesia or recovering from head injuries, and more casually to describe the groggy state between sleep and waking.

He existed in a state of semiconsciousness for several hours after the accident.
