self-adhesive stamp
Peel-and-stick postage
A self-adhesive stamp is a postage stamp with a peel-off backing that sticks without moistening.
Before their introduction in the late twentieth century, stamps required licking or wetting to activate the adhesive.
Self-adhesive stamps now dominate postal use: I prefer self-adhesive stamps—no more licking.
