selective eating

Fussy food habits

Selective eating is a pattern of restricting food choices to a narrow range, typically based on texture, color, smell, or familiarity rather than nutritional concerns.

Common in children but sometimes persisting into adulthood, it goes beyond ordinary pickiness: His selective eating means he'll only touch five or six foods.

When severe, it may be diagnosed as avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).
