seed exchanges
Gardener barter gatherings
Seed exchanges are organized events or networks where gardeners and farmers trade seeds, typically heirloom or open-pollinated varieties.
Participants bring seeds they've saved from their own plants and swap them for different varieties: I got some great tomato seeds at the community seed exchange.
These exchanges help preserve genetic diversity and traditional crop varieties that aren't available commercially.
Some operate as permanent libraries where members can "borrow" seeds and return harvested seeds the following season.
