secret key
Private access code
A secret key is a piece of information—typically a string of characters or numbers—used in cryptography to encrypt or decrypt data.
Unlike public-key systems where one key is shared openly, a secret key must be known only to authorized parties: Both sender and receiver need the same secret key to read the messages.
The term appears in symmetric encryption, API authentication, and password systems where the key's secrecy is essential to security.
