seasonal shedding
Cyclical coat loss
Seasonal shedding is the natural process by which animals lose fur or hair in response to changing seasons, typically heavier in spring and fall as coats transition between winter thickness and summer lightness.
Dogs and cats shed seasonally, leading to periodic increases in loose fur around the house: The vacuum's getting a workout during seasonal shedding.
The term also applies to human hair loss that some attribute to seasonal cycles.
