seasonal pools
Temporary rain-fed waters
Seasonal pools are bodies of water that fill during wet periods and dry up completely at other times of year.
They form in depressions that collect rain or snowmelt, supporting specialized ecosystems of plants and animals adapted to temporary wetlands.
Also called vernal pools when they fill in spring: Salamanders breed in seasonal pools because fish can't survive there.
