scrumping

Stealing fallen apples

Scrumping is stealing apples from someone else's orchard or garden, typically as a minor childhood mischief rather than serious theft.

The word is primarily British: We used to go scrumping in old Mr. Davies's orchard.

By extension, it can apply to pilfering other fruit, but apples remain the classic target.
