scrub tech
Operating room aide
A scrub tech—short for scrub technician, formally surgical technologist—assists surgeons during operations.
They prepare the operating room, sterilize instruments, hand tools to surgeons during procedures, and help maintain the sterile field.
The "scrub" refers to the thorough hand-washing required before entering surgery: The scrub tech passed the retractor without being asked.
