sap buckets
Tree fluid catchers
Sap buckets are containers hung on maple trees to collect the sap that flows when the trunk is tapped in late winter.
The sap drips through a spout into the bucket, later to be boiled down into maple syrup.
Traditional sap buckets are galvanized metal with lids to keep out rain and debris: We hung the sap buckets as soon as the nights dropped below freezing.
