rosy-fingered dawn
Pink-streaked morning sky
Rosy-fingered dawn is a poetic phrase for the reddish-pink light of early morning, when the sun's first rays spread across the sky like outstretched fingers.
The expression comes from Homer's *Iliad* and *Odyssey*, where it appears repeatedly as an epithet—a formulaic phrase used in oral poetry.
It has become the most famous example of Homeric style: The day began, as Homer would say, with rosy-fingered dawn.
