rooster comb
Red chicken headpiece
A rooster comb is the fleshy red crest atop a rooster's head, used in displays of dominance and courtship.
The term extends to things resembling this shape: a hairstyle with a stiff central ridge, or celosia flowers with their ruffled, brain-like blooms.
In cooking, rooster combs (or cockscombs) are an old-fashioned delicacy.
