road dust
Kicked-up dry earth
Road dust is the fine particulate matter that accumulates on and rises from unpaved or poorly maintained roads—a mixture of soil, sand, vehicle exhaust residue, and whatever else traffic grinds down or kicks up.
It settles on nearby vegetation, coats parked cars, and drifts into open windows: The road dust left a gritty film on everything.
