rigged election
Democracy theater performance
A rigged election is one whose outcome has been predetermined through fraud, manipulation, or cheating—ballot stuffing, vote tampering, suppression of opposition voters, or falsified counts.
The phrase also appears as a political accusation, sometimes without evidence, to delegitimize results: He claimed the election was rigged before a single vote was cast.
