redneck jokes

Southern stereotype humor

Redneck jokes are a genre of humor centered on stereotypes of rural white Southerners—their poverty, lack of education, and supposed backwardness.

The format often begins "You might be a redneck if..." followed by markers of low-class rural life: You might be a redneck if your family tree doesn't fork.

Popularized by comedian Jeff Foxworthy, the jokes trade on images of trailer parks, broken-down cars, and unsophisticated behavior.

They can be self-deprecating when told by Southerners themselves or condescending when used by outsiders.
