recovery code
Account rescue sequence
A recovery code is a backup authentication credential, typically a string of random characters, used to regain access to an account when normal login methods fail.
Services generate these codes when you set up two-factor authentication: I locked myself out but had my recovery codes saved.
They're single-use—each code works once, then expires.
