random sequences
Order without logic
Random sequences are ordered sets of elements—typically numbers—generated without predictable pattern, where each element has no systematic relationship to those before or after it.
True randomness is surprisingly hard to achieve; computer-generated sequences are usually pseudorandom, following deterministic algorithms that merely appear random.
Random sequences matter in cryptography, statistical sampling, and simulations: The encryption relies on random sequences that can't be reproduced.
- stochasticRandomly determined, statistically describable
- aleatoryGoverned by chance
- nondeterministicHaving multiple possible outcomes
- probabilisticBased on likelihood calculations
