ramrods
Muzzle-loading tools
Ramrods are the rods used to push ammunition down the barrel of a muzzle-loading firearm.
The word extends to anything long and straight, and to people who are stiff and inflexible—or who drive others with stern discipline: The drill sergeant ramrodded the recruits through training.
To ramrod something through is to force it past resistance: They ramrodded the bill through committee.
