Unclear heritage appearance
Racial ambiguity describes the quality of having features, ancestry, or appearance that don't fit neatly into conventional racial categories.
Someone with racial ambiguity might be asked "What are you?" by strangers trying to place them.
The term appears in discussions of identity, casting, and how society reads physical appearance: Her racial ambiguity meant she was cast in roles of various ethnicities.
