quartz watches

Piezoelectric crystal timekeepers

Quartz watches keep time using a tiny quartz crystal that vibrates at a precise frequency when electricity from a battery passes through it.

This mechanism replaced the springs and gears of mechanical watches in most consumer timepieces after the 1970s, offering greater accuracy at lower cost.

My grandfather still prefers his mechanical watch, but I wear a quartz.
