Idling without purpose
Putzing is aimless, unproductive activity—fiddling around without accomplishing much.
From Yiddish, where *putz* is vulgar slang for penis and, by extension, a fool.
To putz around is to waste time on trivial tasks: I spent the morning putzing around the garage.
The word carries affectionate exasperation rather than harsh criticism.
