push-start
Shove to start
To push-start a vehicle is to get its engine running by pushing it (or letting it roll downhill) while in gear, then releasing the clutch to turn the engine over.
This works when the battery is dead but the engine itself is sound.
Also called bump-start or pop the clutch.
As a noun, the act itself: We gave the old truck a push-start.
